USS Kitty Hawk, the last conventionally powered carrier in the US Navy, is on its last cruise off of Taiwan right now as a show of force during that nation’s elections. The carrier will then make it’s way back to the United States for decommissioning while the Nimitz class carrier George Washington will replace the Kitty Hawk as the forward deployed carrier based out of Japan.
What will happen to the older carrier has yet to be determined. There is a group in North Carolina who would like to move the carrier next to the battleship North Carolina. There is another group interested in the carrier as well – the Indian Navy.
